Sounds Underwater

Sounds Underwater is a series of contemporary acrylic paintings by Bianca Youngers, created in 2026. The work began with the sensory shift that happens beneath the surface of water: conversation disappears, sound softens, light moves differently, and a vast world comes into focus.

Youngers draws from snorkeling, swimming, and the solitude of being underwater. Layered pigment, submerged forms, and gestural mark-making create imagined spaces that feel alive, quiet, and slightly unknown. The paintings hold both the physical experience of water and the emotional space it opens up: stillness, depth, wonder, and a chance to listen more closely.

The series also connects to Youngers’s breathwork practice and her interest in the worlds that exist alongside us but remain unseen. These original paintings invite viewers to pause with that threshold, where familiar reality gives way to something more spacious and mysterious.
